For most people, “making videos with AI” doesn’t mean generating a film from scratch: it means having a good script and adding subtitles without hours of typing. Many people watch videos on mute, so subtitles make a real difference.

1. The script, with any chatbot

Use this page’s prompt in ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot. Read it aloud: if a sentence trips you up, ask for it shorter. If the script mentions facts, check them: chatbots can invent them (hallucinations).

2. Automatic subtitles in Clipchamp

Clipchamp is Microsoft’s video editor. According to its official help:

  1. Import your video (it must contain speech) and place it on the timeline.
  2. Click the captions icon in the preview or the Captions tab in the property panel.
  3. Choose the transcription language (and whether to filter profanity) and click Transcribe media.
  4. Captions appear in the preview and the time-stamped transcript appears in the Captions tab, where you can edit it.

Limits stated by Microsoft: one language per video and speech only. Clipchamp processes the audio with Azure Cognitive Services; Microsoft says no human is involved.

3. Check before publishing

  • Fix names, brands and numbers: that’s where transcription fails most.
  • If someone else appears in the video, get their permission first.
  • Don’t use AI to imitate anyone’s face or voice: besides deceiving, it may be illegal (deepfakes).

Frequently asked questions

Does anyone listen to my audio?

According to Microsoft, automatic speech recognition involves no human intervention, and caption data is stored with your project.
