Make music with AI in Gemini: songs from an idea
How to create a song or background music with Gemini’s “Create music” tool (Lyria): requirements, how to write the prompt, downloads and what to consider about rights.
A birthday song with your mum’s name, music for the holiday video or your podcast jingle. Gemini does it with Lyria, Google’s music model.
Requirements
According to the official help: 18 or over, signed in with a personal account (or supported work or school account) and Gemini activity on. There are track limits; you’ll be notified when you reach them.
Step by step
- Go to gemini.google.com or open the app.
- In the text box, open tools and choose Create music.
- Optional: upload a photo or video for context.
- Write your prompt: start with “create” or “compose”, give genre, mood, instruments and theme. For a full track, the help says to switch the model to Pro.
- Download as MP3 or as a video with cover art, or share the link.
Google’s blog explains that Lyria 3 Pro creates longer tracks with verses and choruses, starting with paid subscribers.
Rights and transparency
- Tracks carry SynthID, Google’s invisible watermark, and the model is designed not to mimic artists.
- Spain’s Intellectual Property Law treats as author the natural person who creates the work: if you plan to register or sell AI-generated music, get advice first.
- If you publish it, say it’s AI-made: it’s honest and avoids confusion (deepfakes).
