Create a logo with AI and check it doesn’t clash with a trademark
How to use AI to brainstorm a logo (concepts, colours, sketches), turn it into a vector with a designer or editor, and search official registers for similar trademarks.
AI is great for exploring logo ideas in minutes. What comes out is rarely a finished logo, let alone one you can register without checking.
- Brief: name, what you do, audience, three brand words, where it’ll appear.
- Concepts: several directions, palettes and type styles (best AI for images, ChatGPT images).
- From idea to logo: output is usually pixels with warped letters. Redraw in vector with a licensed typeface, or take concepts to a pro (AI for designers).
- Check the trademark: in Spain, use the OEPM trademark search. Spain’s Intellectual Property Law protects human creation; the more you contribute, the more the design is yours.
Frequently asked questions
Can I register an AI-made logo as a trademark?
Before applying, search the trademark register (in Spain, the OEPM’s trademark and trade name search) for similar marks. If the design relies mostly on AI, get advice on copyright in the artwork.
Why isn’t the image it gives usable as is?
It’s usually a pixel image, often with malformed text. A usable logo needs a vector file and a licensed typeface.
