AI in HR: help with writing, caution with decisions

What AI can do in HR (job ads, onboarding, policies) and why using it to select or assess people is high-risk under the EU AI Act.

By Cognenza editorial team · Updated · 2 min read · Sources cited

HR involves lots of text (job ads, policies, onboarding) and very sensitive decisions. AI helps with the first; for the second, the law is demanding.

Use it for writing

  • Clear, inclusive job ads.
  • Welcome handbook and internal FAQs.
  • Summarising long policies.

No employee personal data in unapproved chatbots (AI and company data).

Caution when deciding

  • Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 treats as high-risk (Annex III) AI used to select candidates, decide promotions or dismissals and assess performance, and bans (art. 5) emotion recognition at work, except for medical or safety reasons.
  • The GDPR (art. 22) protects against solely automated decisions with significant effects.
  • Spain’s Workers’ Statute (art. 64.4.d) requires informing employee representatives about algorithms affecting employment.

Key concept: a model’s bias can tilt its answers; always review them with your own judgement.
