Colour palette for a project
Never use real personal data. If you need to, run it through the data cleaner.
I want a colour palette for [project: invitation, website, poster, room]. The mood I’m after: [calm / cheerful / elegant]. Give me 5 colours with their hex code, what to use each for (background, text, details) and warn me if any text-and-background combination has too little contrast to read well.
What result to expect
Five colours with their hex code and use. Check the contrast with a checker before using them for text.
Example
Project: a child’s birthday invitation, cheerful mood. Result: 5 colours (for example, a soft yellow background, a dark blue for text and three accent shades), with their codes and a warning that white text on yellow is hard to read.
Useful variations
- Ask for “a dark-mode version” of the same palette.
- Ask for “3 alternative palettes” and keep the one you like best.
Common mistakes
- Choosing colours only by how they look on your phone screen: check them printed if it’s a poster.
- Using light text on a light background: always ask for the contrast warning.
Getting the most out of it
- Paste the prompt as is and only replace what is in [brackets].
- If the answer does not fit, do not start over: ask for “shorter”, “more formal” or “as a table”.
- Always review the result before using it: AI can get facts, dates or names wrong.
Before you paste it: quick checklist
- Describe style, light, framing and colours in short sentences.
- State the format: portrait, landscape or square.
- Don’t upload photos of other people without their permission.
- If the result isn’t right, change one element at a time.
How to adapt it to your assistant
The template works the same in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Claude because it only uses plain language. If your assistant supports fixed instructions (custom instructions, Gems or projects), you can store your preferred tone and format there and paste only the variable part. On a free plan, split long requests into two or three shorter messages.
