AI for older people: talk to your phone, no fear, no scams
A calm guide for older people: how to ask AI by speaking, read small print with the camera and recognise scams using fake voices or videos.
You don’t need to know technology. If you can use WhatsApp, you can use AI: you talk to it and it answers.
Three really useful things
- Ask by speaking (ChatGPT voice mode, Gemini Live).
- Read small print: photograph a letter or leaflet and say “read it to me slowly”.
- A learning companion: recipes, local history, languages.
AI is sometimes wrong. For health, money or important papers, check with someone you trust.
Watch out for scams
- Voices and faces can be faked with AI. If “your grandson” calls asking for urgent money, hang up and call his usual number.
- Never give passwords, PINs or SMS codes.
- In Spain, call 017, INCIBE’s free helpline. More in AI scams.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI hard to use?
No: on a phone you just tap the microphone and talk. Our ChatGPT voice mode and Gemini Live guides explain it step by step.
A relative called asking for money urgently. Could it be fake?
Yes: voices can now be imitated with AI. Hang up and call the number you already had. In Spain, you can ask INCIBE’s 017 line.
