Sort out your personal finances with AI (no investment advice)
How to use AI to build a budget, categorise spending and understand banking terms, checking with official regulators and without asking it where to invest.
AI is a patient calculator: it sorts, adds up and explains. What it shouldn’t do is tell you where to put your savings.
A budget in 15 minutes
- Download the month’s transactions (CSV or Excel) and delete IBAN, cards and names (what not to paste).
- Use the template below to categorise them.
- With the totals, ask for a monthly budget with your own savings goal. Prefer spreadsheets? See Excel with Copilot.
Understand before signing
Ask it to explain APR, nominal rate, Euribor or maintenance fees with examples. Then check figures with the official simulators on Banco de España’s Bank Customer Portal, which also explains how to complain.
Scam signals
High “guaranteed” returns, urgency, “AI trading robots”… First, search the firm in the CNMV warnings; its list includes apps presented as AI. More in AI scams.
Frequently asked questions
Can I ask AI where to invest?
We don’t recommend it. A chatbot isn’t an authorised financial adviser and can be wrong. Before signing up, check with the regulator (CNMV in Spain) that the firm is authorised and not on its warning lists.
Where can I calculate a loan payment or APR?
Banco de España’s Bank Customer Portal offers official simulators for payments, returns and APR (TAE).
