AI for farmers: paperwork, farm records and weather
How AI can help on the farm in Spain: understanding procedures, organising farm-record notes and reading forecasts, with official FEGA and AEMET data.
AI won’t plough or prune, but it can take paperwork and doubts off your plate. Most useful: talking to it on your phone at the end of the day.
Farm record book
FEGA runs SIEX, the system linking Spain’s farm registers and digital record books. Its information note says the digital book is voluntary (paper or digital), except electronic recording of plant protection treatments by professional users, planned for 1 January 2027.
AI helps you organise: dictate “today, plot 3, olive pruning, 6 hours” and ask for a table. Then copy it into your book.
Weather and irrigation
Check forecasts at AEMET. You can paste a warning and ask for a summary, but AEMET is the source.
What you don’t delegate
Doses, safety intervals and product authorisations: label and adviser. A chatbot can be wrong with total confidence.
Frequently asked questions
Is the digital farm record book mandatory in Spain?
According to FEGA, it’s currently voluntary: paper or digital are both valid. The planned exception is electronic recording of plant protection treatments by professional users, scheduled for 1 January 2027. Confirm with your region.
Can I ask AI which product to apply to a crop?
Not as a decision. A chatbot can get doses or authorisations wrong; follow the product label and your adviser.
