Configuration: ComfyUI 100% offline with your models in one folder

A recipe for using ComfyUI without internet, without paid API nodes and without sharing usage data, and for reusing a models folder with extra_model_paths.yaml.

By Cognenza editorial team · Updated · 2 min read · Sources cited

What it’s for

ComfyUI can run entirely on your computer. This recipe makes sure it doesn’t connect to the internet, that paid nodes don’t appear and that all your models live in a single folder.

1. In Comfy Desktop: usage data

During first setup, untick “share anonymous usage data” (it is ticked) and, if you prefer, beta features. Choose Local mode.

2. Offline start (manual or portable installation)

python main.py --offline
OptionWhat it does
--offlineStops the interface from talking to the internet and disables partner (paid) nodes
--disable-partner-nodesOnly disables partner nodes; the interface keeps its internet access

3. Your models in one folder

Rename extra_model_paths.yaml.example to extra_model_paths.yaml and edit it:

comfyui:
  base_path: /path/to/my-models/
  checkpoints: models/checkpoints/
  loras: models/loras/
  vae: models/vae/
KeyWhat it is
base_pathMain folder where you keep your models
checkpointsMain generation models
lorasSmall style or character adjustments
vaeComponent that turns the result into an image

Precautions

  • Offline means no updates: connect now and then to update.
  • Custom nodes are third-party code: review them before installing, in offline mode too.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between --offline and --disable-partner-nodes?

According to the official code, --offline stops the interface from talking to the internet through a restrictive security policy and also disables partner (paid) nodes. --disable-partner-nodes only disables those nodes.

Does ComfyUI download things on its own?

According to its repository, the core doesn’t download anything unless you ask it to.

Where is extra_model_paths.yaml?

The ComfyUI folder includes an example file, extra_model_paths.yaml.example. You need to rename it to extra_model_paths.yaml and edit it.
